How do artists determine the pricing of their art? This question is something all artists have to think about constantly when producing work. It can be a very tricky question with no real answer in my opinion. There are so many variables that come into play when pricing an art piece. The economy, the audience, the specific area one is in, how long someone worked on an art piece, and so much more goes into figuring this out. With someone like Jeff Koons - one of the highest profiting artists - who knows if he would have sold his art for so much if it weren't for auctioning, his well-known status, and the economy of the time.

Art pricing is unique to each individual and is ever-changing. Something I have heard often when viewing art is the audience commenting things like, "this is not worth the price", "how could this be so expensive, it looks like a toddler made it", and so on and so forth.

Personally, I think it is none of our business to decide what an artist's work is worth. That is for the artist to decide. There is no clear answer on how artists determine the prices that they do, and I don't think there ever will be. The cavemen created art for us for free, but now we are in a time where NFT's are taking over the art market and prices for art are skyrocketing. Just like anything else, art changes with time. It may make people mad or aggravated to see artists selling work for a high price, but we have to remember that this is the career path artists choose. There are not fixed incomes in this space, so people will do what they will - all we can do is observe, judge, buy it or not, and leave it at that.
