I have never been too interested in making my own songs/soundtracks, but I enjoyed exploring the medium in this project. Learning about John Cages work inspired me as an artist and gave me new, interesting insights on how to approach art. I love movies and one of the most vital aspects of making a film is the music and soundtrack. Music and sounds can create all kinds of emotions and further imagine a setting and sense of what is to come. (sometimes) I further learned in this project that there is such a wide range of how the audience perceives and gets messages from art, but more specifically sound. I was aiming to make something that made one feel anxious, unsettled, and possibly nervous. I was successful in this, but I loved seeing how my peers interpreted the song. I also did not have a specific place that I really wanted to take the audience, so seeing where the sounds did take the audience is fun. There were a lot of comments about feeling abducted or flipping through TV stations. Other more specific responses that I found fun were feeling like you're in a 'naughty toddlers' bedroom', feeling like this was a rat/mouses soundtrack, being in an old Chuck-E-Cheese, being in a coma/ fever dream, having an episode, and more. It is so interesting to think how my subconscious was playing through this project. Although, I don't like to feel anxious, I like the idea that the sounds I put together could take you to a place of being abducted, or any of these other crazy settings. In my art, I love to reference pop culture and mix old and new references from life. While I feel I could have worked on the flow of this project more and created a clearer sense/ theme from my piece, I am happy with what came from this and what I learned.
